The misperception that paramedics are merely ambulance drivers is everyone’s problem.

An Albuquerque man with a history of violence and sexual offenses plead guilty for attempted rape, and for groping an EMT who transported him to the hospital. Sebastian Largo, 38, pleaded guilty to the attempted rape of a woman jogging on a trail near Tramway Blvd. in NE Albuquerque and battery against the EMT. He is expected to serve 2-3 years incarcerated and register as a convicted sex offender, as reported on KRQE today.
Mr. Largo does not appear to be on the NM Sexual Offender Registry despite a long history of sexual crimes. In March 2021 he was charged with groping a teenage girl at NE heights grocery store and those charges appear to have been dropped. He pled guilty recently to grabbing a teenager at Sam’c Club. He was accused of exposing himself to children at Academy Hills Park.
Largo served 9 years in prison for killing his father after beating him to death and assaulting his younger brother who attempted to aid their father.
NM passed law in 2011 supporting our health care workers, including EMT’s, from assault and battery. Section 30-3-9.2: Assault; battery; health care personnel, makes assault and battery a felony when carried out on health care workers.
It is hard to imagine he is not already on the NM Sex Offender Registry, but he will be added now. Is two years jail time enough for someone with such a history of violence and sexual assault of children, young women, and EMT’s?
CBC: Cardiac arrest rates have spiked worldwide during the pandemic, a Toronto medical researcher says, and paramedics in Peel Region say they are seeing that same trend play out close to home.

DC Fire and EMS confirmed that one of their own #DCsbravest firefighters was struck in the leg and survived while treating victims of a shooting.
A time after DC Fire and EMS arrived on scene of a convenience store parking lot to treat victims of a shooting, one firefighter EMT was shot when a vehicle passed by firing at the active scene. The firefighter was treated for a non-life threatening bullet wound and released.
More rescuers would have been shot if it hadn’t been for the fire apparatus that shielded others from the spray of gunfire, leaving the fire engine full of bullet holes.

Stay Safe my Friends!
Our first book, and it’s for first responders and their partners!
Join the Chief’s Book Club for our first book, Bulletproof Marriage by Adam Davis and Lt. Col. (Ret) Dave Grossman. Bulletproof Marriage is a 90-day devotional for first responders to read with their partner for daily tips to make your union stronger than ever before. Surviving the job often comes at a cost and for up to 80% of first responders it means divorce. Stats on divorce among first responders are not well kept, but any divorce due to the stresses of our job is too many.
This book is a 90 day devotional and each chapter is designed to be short and readable by you and your partner each day.
How to sign up? Join my community and text me at 505-658-0781 or email seanhaaverson @chiefsays.com (no spaces).
Our first meeting will be November 18th, 2020 at 1800 MST via videoconferencing (live, synchronous) and recur every 2 weeks. We will survey the group to determine which day is best for the group after the first meeting.
A few notes: though this book is faith based, our book club will not always review faith-based resources. Everyone is welcome no matter their views on faith.
