EMS Advocacy Alert: Take a Moment and Support EMS and EMT’s by Contacting Your US House Rep to Support EMS Reimbursement
Friends take a moment to send US House Representatives a message asking they urge CMS to reimburse ambulances, fire departments, EMS agencies for patients treated at home or in place & telehealth. This is an urgent EMS advocacy alert and the deadline is June 24th, 2020. EMS agencies receive reimbursement from the Center for Medicaid and Medicare (CMS) for patients transported to a hospital. Many patients, especially during COVID, can appropriately receive medical care with EMT’s and Paramedics as well as utilizing telehealth. This helps decrease patient exposure to this and other diseases in the hospital and reserves the hospital resources for only the sickest patients.
NAEMT has a campaign to have our House Representatives sign on to a ‘Dear Colleague’ letter asking CMS to allow for reimbursement for the patient interactions that do not result in the patient being transported to the hospital. The letter was originated by U.S. House Representatives Cindy Axne (D-IA), French Hill (R-AR), and John Larson (D-CT). Ask your representative to sign on and support this message.
